Islam (which literally means submission to the Will of Allah Almighty) is the religion which Allah Almighty has chosen for all human beings.
The Qur’an states:
The true religion in the Sight of Allah is Islam.
Qur’an 3:19
Islam is the religion that all prophets (PBUT) came with and preached to their respective
peoples.
The Qur’ an says:
(Islam) was the legacy that Abraham left to his sons, and so did Jacob; both said to their children: “Allah has chosen the true religion for you; then you should not die except as Muslims (in full submission to Him). When Jacob was on his deathbed, he also said to his children:
Qur’an 2:132-133
‘What will you worship after me?’
They said: ‘We shall worship your Lord (i.e. Allah) the Lord of your fathers Abraham, Ishmael and Isaac. That is the one (True) Lord. To Him we bow (in submission). ‘
That said, the mission of all prophets (PBUT) is one and the same, which is to call all humanity to the worship of their One and Only Lord and not any others and to guide people through this life to truth and righteousness. In this regard, the Qur’än states:
And verily Allah has set in every nation a prophet, who proclaimed to the people: ‘Worship Allah and stay away from false gods’
Qur’an 16:36
The Qur’an also states:
And Allah sent no prophet but that he would be commanded to preach the following: There is no god but Allah, so worship Him.’
Qur’an 21:25
In the same connection, the Prophet (PBUH) said:
Allah’s prophets are like paternal half-brothers, who come from different mothers while sharing the same father. Similarly, Allah’s prophets shared the same true religion even though they came from different nations.
Al-Bukhari 3443 and Muslim 2365/145
This means that Allah’s prophets were in agreement on the foundations of the religion but brought various laws and commandments that better suited their respective contexts.
